InfoQuadglass
InfoInfo XTC Carbon
Prior's quadraxial fibreglass/carbon composite (quad glass) is a stitched fabric with fibers running in four directions (+30, -30, 0 and +90 degrees). It also contains two 6cm-wide, 10-count carbon strips running lengthwise 4cm from the center of the board.

The Quadglass material is layered on each side of a vertically laminated maple woodcores combined with UHMW sidewalls and bases and nylon topsheets.

The fiberglass/carbon configuration of quad glass creates a responsive, long lasting ski with excellent torsional stability.

Prior’s new, high-performance XTC carbon construction for winter 2011/12 brings ski technology to the next level. XTC carbon construction is available as an upgrade to Prior Overlord and Husume Ski models and saves an average of 600 grams (1lb 5oz) off the total ski weight.*

Weight reduction continues to be a key to backcountry skiing as less weight means more vertical with less physical exertion. Ensuring that there is no decrease in performance with weight savings is often thought of as the Holy Grail for backcountry gear manufacturers and XTC Carbon Construction takes a big leap towards that spiritual cup.

In layman’s terms the XTC Carbon Construction uses the same vertically laminated maple woodcores combined with UHMW sidewalls and bases and nylon topsheets as in their traditional construction but replaces the quadraxial carbon/fibreglass weave with Prior’s newly developed XTC Carbon fabric. Carbon is lighter than fibreglass and absorbs less resin – hence the dramatic weight savings. The ride stays the same as the fibreglass construction due to how the XTC Carbon weave is constructed.

Be aware that carbon XTC looks black, so if you order a clear topsheet like clear/blue, custom blue, custom green, transtopo or haida's, you won't see the clear wood through it, but you will see the black carbon weave instead. Please call us if you need clarification!!

  • The graphics are screened to the bottom of this clear shiny topsheet material.
  • Non printed areas of the graphics provide windows into the wood core.

All Prior Skis and boards are factory tuned by our custom technicians and machines. A Factory Tuned ski finish includes:

• Machined 89° edge and 1° bevel that are detuned on tip and tail.

• Stone ground bases with machined universal wax.

• Filed/sanded topsheet sidewalls.

*More detailed custom tuning is available via our Pro Tune Service.

For extra performance we recommend having your new Prior skis hand-tuned to your specifications by the pros at the Prior factory. A Pro Tune includes the following:

Hand edge tuning
Edges are hand filed to 89° and bases are beveled to 1.5°. The ski edges are then hand finished with a diamond stone.
Note: All Prior skis are detuned approx. 3cm along the effective edge on the tip and tail. If you would like your edges pro-tuned to other specifications please add this to the comments box on your order.

Custom hot wax
For maximum wax saturation we iron on your desired temperature of wax thoroughly and let it set. Once it is dry you your board is scraped, brush structured and buffed for maximum glide and moisture release.

Wax options include:

  • Warm (+5°C to -6°C)
  • Universal (-7°C to -11°C)
  • Cold (-11°C and below)

Prior Overlord Skis from Prior Snowboards on Vimeo.

The Overlord is Prior’s go to BIG mountain toy. Fat, strong, and playful, the Overlord’s shape offers incredible stability at speed while providing un-matched nimbleness through critical sections & deep snow

For 2013 Prior has refined the tip and tail further and increased the sidecut of the overlord to give it more manoeuvrability at a wide variety of speeds and the result has testers stoked!

The Overlord is named after the impressive Overlord glacier which sits at the head end of Fitzsimmons valley separating Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains,

XTC Carbon Construction is available as an upgrade to all Overlord skis and saves an average of 500 grams (1lb 1oz) off our regular quad glass Ski construction.

Profile: Hybrid Rocker Profile provides floatation and predictability in powder of all kinds...and allows it to turn real EASY! 2-4 mm of traditional camber underfoot provides energy from turn-to-turn.

Ride: Fast and aggressive with a moderate sidecut this ski is stable and powerful through all snow conditions yet still turns with ease. At 115-118 mm underfoot it has the most floatation of any ski in the Prior lineup.

Conditions: Big mountain: powder, trees, steeps, chutes, big airs.

Mounting Recommendations - Boot Center is recommended but can be moved forward up to 3cms forward or back 1cm depending on skier preference. Race inspired skiers with an aggressive stance may move it back 1-2 cms. Skiers with a more upright stance may enjoy the quicker initiation by moving the mount forward 1-3cms.

Available in traditional Quadglass Construction or Prior's new XTC Carbon Construction.

Olga Cuttell

Olga was born in Ufa Russia (Bashkortostan), just west of the Ural Mountains, about two decades before the fall of communism. She moved to Western Canada in 2005. Surrounded by the inspirational landscapes of BC, Olga began her journey into artistic expression.

Olga is an untrained artist who had been sketching and painting recreationally her whole young life. Her work attempts to present it as a given that there is no greater source of positive inspiration than nature; be it lonely, majestic, playful or powerful. Season 2012/13 represents the third year that Olga has worked with Prior.

For a deeper look into her work visit her website www.oladesign.net.

Olivier Roy

Olivier moved from Montreal to Whistler in 1992 after getting a degree in fine art. Since then he has been pursuing the dual life of professional snowboarder and artist. In recent years Olivier has been focusing on larger canvases, doing live painting events and also painting large-scale murals in Montreal with the Mu organization. In his personal work, he is inspired by the dramatic West Coasts scenery and active lifestyle he leads.

Olivier enjoys exploring different subject matters and painting techniques with every new piece. He has been part of numerous galleries and group shows including his first solo exhibit in 2009 at Le Centre in Vancouver and, in 2011, and a major group show with the En Masse collective at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art. Currently, he spends his time between Montreal and Whistler working as a snowboard coach, freelance artist/graphic designer, muralist and set painter on major circus, theatre and motion picture productions.

Oli's Screaming Trees graphic represents his the third topsheet he has contributed to the Prior line.

Clarence Mills

A Haida native from Skidegate in the Queen Charlotte Islands, Clarence Mills is an established Haida artist known throughout the world. His works sell in museums, galleries and native art shops throughout Europe and North America. He creates glass totems, engraved silver and gold jewelry, cedar and glass bowls, doors and limited edition prints, but Mills’ claim to fame rests in his prowess as a carver.

He was a featured artist at Expo 86 in Vancouver and Expo 88 in Brisbane, Australia where he carved a six meter totem pole that graced the entrance outside the Canadian Pavilion. In 1997, he was commissioned to carve a 4 meter high cedar totem for a native exhibit at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Mills has been given a gift from his ancestors. He endows his creations with a powerful energy, smooth flowing style and images that speak through his symbolic Haida figures. He strives for one achievement – to begin a process for many people who have never understood their connection to the spirits of the land and all its creatures.

The Haida Eagle Topsheet is the most popular graphic ever used in the Prior line and this current version of it is the 4th year that it has been in the line in various forms.

Sarita Mielke

As a graphic designer Sarita chooses to focus on the more artistic side of things by incorporating print making and illustration within her digital work whenever possible. Using her hands, the tools of the craft and her whimsical imagination, she conveys different ideas to the outside world, giving her a great sense of purpose and enjoyment.

Graduating with a Degree in Graphic Design from Vancouver Island University, professionally Sarita has concentrated her talents in the freelance graphic design field for the last four years. She finds herself working for companies based in the outdoor realm, doing anything from logo work to snowboard and ski graphics.

Her time away from the drawing table is spent reaping inspiration form the great outdoors. If you can't find her ensconced in her home studio blasting dub step and indie, you will find her way up on a coastal mountain path or on some sort of board in search of that unequivocal perfect ride.

Winter 2012/13 marks Sarita's first season contributing to the Prior line. For more info on Sarita's work please check out her website http://www.saritamielke.com/

Mat Miller

Freelance illustrator and designer from the UK working in the realms of vector illustration, photo montage/manipulation and mixed media. His work is influenced by contemporary graffiti and lowbrow art along with many things from the natural world.

Mat defines his work as mixed media since he uses a great variety of techniques to bring the final image together. These include sketches both in graphite and ink, watercolour studies, photographic elements, digital painting and vector artwork.

Subject matter covers nature quite heavily, whilst adding surreal, off-beat and fluid elements. He enjoys using vibrant colour palettes but also works in softer tones as well.

Mat has always wanted to be an 'artist' of some description ever since he discovered he was fairly good at drawing at a young age. After attending The University of Huddersfield studying Creative Imaging he's now very focussed on making a living from doing what he loves and enjoys! Mat was featured in Digital Arts Magazine as one of the 'Best young UK Illustrators 2009’

With a relatively young career in the creative industries, Mat’s aim is to keep on working with new people on highly creative projects whilst having fun along the way.

 * For bit mapped based art (ie. Photoshop or similar) we require TIFF and JPEG formats.
