InfoQuadglass
InfoInfo XTC Carbon
Prior's quadraxial fibreglass/carbon composite (quad glass) is a stitched fabric with fibers running in four directions (+30, -30, 0 and +90 degrees). It also contains two 6cm-wide, 10-count carbon strips running lengthwise 4cm from the center of the board.

The Quadglass material is layered on each side of a vertically laminated maple woodcores combined with UHMW sidewalls and bases and nylon topsheets.

The fiberglass/carbon configuration of quad glass creates a responsive, long lasting ski with excellent torsional stability.

Prior’s new, high-performance XTC carbon construction for winter 2011/12 brings ski technology to the next level. XTC carbon construction is available as an upgrade to Prior Overlord and Husume Ski models and saves an average of 600 grams (1lb 5oz) off the total ski weight.*

Weight reduction continues to be a key to backcountry skiing as less weight means more vertical with less physical exertion. Ensuring that there is no decrease in performance with weight savings is often thought of as the Holy Grail for backcountry gear manufacturers and XTC Carbon Construction takes a big leap towards that spiritual cup.

In layman’s terms the XTC Carbon Construction uses the same vertically laminated maple woodcores combined with UHMW sidewalls and bases and nylon topsheets as in their traditional construction but replaces the quadraxial carbon/fibreglass weave with Prior’s newly developed XTC Carbon fabric. Carbon is lighter than fibreglass and absorbs less resin – hence the dramatic weight savings. The ride stays the same as the fibreglass construction due to how the XTC Carbon weave is constructed.

Topsheet

Topsheet Materials

Prior shops the world for the best topsheet materials available. For winter 2011/12 we are offering three different topsheet composites:

SG = Sublimated Gloss

  • Lightest topsheet material in our line.
  • Provides vibrant, accurate color reproduction over entire color spectrum.
  • Gloss finish.
  • The graphics are sublimated onto a shiny, white topsheet material via a heat transfer method.

BG = Backprinted Gloss

  • Produces a shiny, durable finish.
  • The graphics are screened to the bottom of this clear shiny topsheet material.
  • Non printed areas of the graphics provide windows into the wood core.

BM = Backprinted Mat

  • Provides a durable mat finish and hides any scratches keeping boards and skis looking fresh.
  • The graphics are applied to the bottom of a clear mat topsheet material.
  • Non-printed areas of the graphics provide windows into the wood core.

All Prior Skis and boards are factory tuned by our custom technicians and machines. A Factory Tuned ski finish includes:

• Machined 89° edge and 1° bevel that are detuned on tip and tail.

• Stone ground bases with machined universal wax.

• Filed/sanded topsheet sidewalls.

*More detailed custom tuning is available via our Pro Tune Service.

For extra performance we recommend having your new Prior skis hand-tuned to your specifications by the pros at the Prior factory. A Pro Tune includes the following:

Hand edge tuning
The side edge is hand filed to 89 degrees and the base beveled at 1 degree. The ski edges are then hand finished with a diamond stone.
Note: All Prior skis are detuned approx. 3cm along the effective edge on the tip and tail.

Custom hot wax
For maximum wax saturation we iron on your desired temperature of wax thoroughly and let it set. Once it is dry you your board is scraped, brush structured and buffed for maximum glide and moisture release.

Wax options include:

  • Warm (+5 to -6 degrees Celsius)
  • Universal (-7 to -11 degrees Celsius)
  • Cold (-11 degrees Celsius and colder)

Overlord
Zoom

Fat, strong, and firm, the Overlord offers incredible stability at speed while providing nimbleness through trees and powder. At 115+/- mm underfoot it has the most floatation of any ski in the Prior lineup. Featuring a moderately long sidecut, hybrid rocker and updated tip profile for winter 2012 the Overlord powers through all snow conditions with ease.

The Overlord is named after the vast Overlord glacier which sits at the head end of Fitzsimmons valley separating Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.

Profile: Hybrid Rocker

Best for: Big Mountain skiing; powder, extreme steeps, chutes, big airs, trees and pillows. Flowing GS carves on the groomers at mach speed are part of the fun too.

Rider Type: Intermediate to expert skiers alike gravitate towards the floatation, stability and nimbleness of the Overlord.

Olga Cuttell

Olga was born in Ufa Russia (Bashkortostan), just west of the Ural Mountains, about two decades before the fall of communism. She moved to Western Canada in 2005. Surrounded by the inspirational landscapes of BC, Olga began her journey into artistic expression.

Olga is an untrained artist who had been sketching and painting recreationally her whole young life. Her work attempts to present it as a given that there is no greater source of positive inspiration than nature; be it lonely, majestic, playful or powerful. Season 2011/12 represents the second year that Olga has worked with Prior.

For a deeper look into her work visit her website www.oladesign.net.

Alano Edzerza

Edzerza is Alano’s family name, passed down over the last hundred years. The name itself is ages old, and has been a part of the Tahltan nation from time immemorial. Tahltan culture reflects a mix of both Athabascan and Coastal traditions. They have two clans: Tsesk’iye (Raven clan) and Ch’iyone (Wolf clan). Alano belongs to the Raven clan and feels a deep connection to the Tahltan creation story featuring the Raven.

At the age of 21, Alano entered the tutelage of family member and fellow artist Terrance Campbell. In 2002, Alano furthered his education by attending school in Arizona for jewelry making under the instruction of Rick Charlie. Alano has moved through many different mediums: pencil sketches, jewelry, acrylics, glass works, grand-scale installations, wood panels and now, performance sportswear.

Jeanette Kangas

Jeanette Kangas is the owner and designer of Wink Abilities - Creative Imaging, currently based in Courtenay, BC. She is a self-taught artist but holds a diploma in Professional Photography and Desktop Publishing and has many years of working as a Graphic Designer. Currently, she is freelancing in graphic design, digital illustration and her own J.Kangas Art Studios.

Very much influenced by her surroundings; the mountains, the ocean, the undiscovered...Jeanette uses these elements with a slight twist of perspective to create worlds she likes to discover. Working primarily in acrylic paints she has developed a style that uses linear brush strokes, unique perspectives and saturated colours to capture a sense of motion and the passage of time to invoke a mood similar to actually being out there in the hills.

With plenty of new projects and painting visions she is excited for what will emerge. www.winkabilities.com

Chili Thom

Chili Thom is a local Whistler painter, filmmaker, professional DJ, TV host and mountain guide. The eerie and compelling 'Inukshuk' topsheet is his fourth topsheet design for Prior in the last 12 years and we are excited to have him in the mix.

All topsheets are sublimated onto a white, gloss nylon topsheet for a professional look and finish. (sorry we cannot sublimate onto a clear topsheet material). Above prices based on receipt of art in digital file format in either of the following formats:

 * For bit mapped based art (ie. Photoshop or similar) we require TIFF and JPEG formats. The File size must be 200 DPI in rectangular shape that measures 3cm longer than desired board length x 34cm wide.
