A true twin stance (0cm stance offset) combined with a tapered overall shape means that the Phalanx can handle anything you throw at it. XTC Carbon Construction is available as an upgrade to all Prior splitboards and saves an average of 500 grams (1lb 1oz) off a Prior splitboard pressed with our standard Quadraxial Fiberglass.

Quad-glass

Our quad-axial glass/carbon composite (quad glass) is a stitched fabric with fibers running in four directions (+30, -30, 0 and +90 degrees). It also contains two 6cm-wide, 10-count carbon strips running lengthwise down center of each ski. The quad-glass material is layered on each side of a vertically laminated maple woodcores combined with UHMW sidewalls, 4001 sintered bases and nylon topsheets. The fiberglass/carbon configuration of quad-glass creates a responsive, long lasting ride with excellent torsional stability. The additional directional weave creates enhanced torsional stiffness in comparison to the tri-axial fibreglass construction.

Our high-performance XTC Carbon Construction brings splitboard technology to the next level. XTC Carbon Construction is available as an upgrade on all splitboards and saves an average of 500grams (1lb 3oz) off each board. Weight reduction continues to be key to backcountry access as less weight means more vertical with less physical exertion. Ensuring that there is no decrease in performance with weight savings is often thought of as the Holy Grail for backcountry gear manufacturers and XTC takes a big leap towards that spiritual cup. In layman’s terms XTC Carbon Construction uses the same vertically laminated maple and aspen woodcores combined with UHMW sidewalls, 4001 sintered bases and nylon topsheets as in their traditional construction but replaces the fiberglass weave with Prior’s newly developed XTC carbon material.

Hot Wax

Hot Wax

Your new Prior board comes finished with factory machined 90° edge and 1° bevel, speed polish base finish and machine wax. For that extra slick finish you can upgrade to a hot wax for $20. Our specialists will finish and wax your board/ski based on the environment it is destined to spend its days ripping pow, groomed corderoy or spring slush.

Custom hot wax

For maximum wax saturation we iron on your desired temperature of wax thoroughly and let it set. Once it is dry, your board is scraped, brush structured and buffed for maximum glide and moisture release.

For extra performance we recommend having your new Prior snowboard hand-tuned to your specifications by the pros at the Prior factory. A Pro Tune includes the following:

Hand edge tuning
The side edge is machined to 89 degrees and the base beveled at 1 degree. The board edges are then hand finished with a diamond stone. If you would like your edges pro-tuned to other specifications please add this to the comments box on your order.
Note: All Prior boards (except alpine models) are detuned approx. 3cm along the effective edge on the tip and tail.

Custom hot wax

Custom Shapes

The Prior shop has been making custom "one off" snowboards since 1989. The layout and design of our factory has been built with this in mind. We can make a board to pretty much any shape and flex pattern you want. The following chart outlines prices for common revisions to existing templates:

*These prices are estimates, and are variable depending on the shape and your specific request. Over 1cm of widening needs a custom template.

Custom Graphics

Prior has been offering custom graphics since 1989 and provides a complete custom topsheet and base graphic service. This is ideal for riders who want a one-of-a-kind look on their Prior board, and for companies who desire special corporate gifts and/or promotions. Custom Topsheet fees are single set up design fees, and are required for tooling cost coverage. Custom to-sheets can be applied to multiple product and charges are split accordingly. Please contact us for any further enquiries or to begin the design process.

Topsheet Artwork

Topsheet design and colour options are almost unlimited. We can print topsheets of photo color quality. All topsheets are sublimated onto a white, matte nylon topsheet for a professional look and finish. (sorry we cannot sublimate onto a clear topsheet material therefore clear windows are not an option for one off customs). Above prices based on receipt of art in digital file format in either of the following formats:

* For art that is done in vector based (ie. Illustrator or similar) program we require artwork in PDF or AI format.

* For bit mapped based art (ie. Photoshop or similar) we require TIFF, PSD or PDFformats. The File size must be 300 DPI in rectangular shape that measures 6cm longer than desired board length x 34cm wide. Note that files will likely be in excess of 100MB and can be sent by Dropbox etc or dropped off at the factory.

Base Artwork

Prior offers diecut custom bases in one to three colors. As base colors are cut with a drag blade knife, so there are some design limitations. We ask that you first email a low res jpeg file to us for review and approval.

Timing

Our build times vary based on production volume and seasonal needs. We always aim to have your order built within 4 weeks of confirming your order. Sometimes this time will vary but rest assured we are putting the time and effort into hand building your custom ride!

For full custom orders build time is typically 6-8 weeks due to the supplier requirements for non-inventory items.

Powder Rocker

Provides floatation and predictability in powder of all kinds, while it also allows the board to initiate sooner. Traditional camber in the tail provides additional power to drive off your back foot.

Traditional

Provides maximum pop, stable landing and excellent edge control and grip thanks to a long effective edge.

Micro-camber

Micro camber provides a stable ride with fast edge to edge engagement. Perfect for powder shapes or riders that want a stable and responsive ride in all conditions.

Hybrid

Provides flotation and predictability in powder and silky smooth transitions edge-to-edge with excellent edge control. 2-4mm of traditional camber underfoot provides energy from turn-to-turn.

Tip

Mild nose rocker profile with traditional camber throughout the rest of the ski. A perfect combination for turn initiation, edge hold and float for this shape.

Flat

Flat rocker is great for powder shapes & bigger waist width boards. Flat rocker provides fast edge to edge engagement and maximum float in the deep stuff.
